Kitchen Cabinets

The following article  “Kitchen Cabinets- Making the right selections for your home remodel” written by Will Cole was published in the July 2, 2023 edition of the Houston Chronicle.

Choosing cabinets for a kitchen remodel can be a daunting task, but with some planning and consideration, you and your remodeling professional can make the process easier.

When you are planning your kitchen remodel and considering cabinets for your project, your choices are stock cabinets, semi-custom cabinets or custom cabinets.

Stock cabinets are mass produced and have standard styles and sizes and options are limited.  They generally require some assembly and have a shorter life span.

Semi-custom cabinets are manufactured with standard sizes, styles, and finishes. They are similar to stock, but have more options for customization and added detail. They are more expensive than stock cabinets and need to be pre ordered.

Custom cabinets are professionally designed, built and finished. They have several advantages over stock or semi-custom cabinets. With custom cabinets, you have complete control over the design, materials, and finishes. This means that you can create a unique look for your kitchen that reflects your personal style and meets your specific needs. Custom cabinets are typically built with higher-quality materials and construction methods and built to fit the exact dimensions of your kitchen, ensuring that there are no gaps or awkward spaces. This makes them ideal for all kitchens, especially those with non-standard layouts or unusual features.

When you choose the type of cabinets you want for your kitchen remodel consider the many different styles that they come in, from traditional to modern. Think about which style will best complement your home.

Cabinets can be made from a variety of materials, including wood, laminate, and metal. Discuss the durability and maintenance requirements of each material with your professional remodeler before deciding.

Consider how you use your kitchen and choose cabinets that will make your space more functional. For example, if you have a lot of pots and pans, you may want to choose cabinets with deep drawers.

When you are planning the layout the layout of your new kitchen, choose cabinets that will fit well in the space. Your professional remodeler and or designer can create a layout that maximizes your storage and functionality.

Cabinets are the backbone of your kitchen. They have a significant impact on the overall design, space and budget of a kitchen remodel.  You not only want to choose stylish and quality cabinets, but ones that will ultimately maximize the capabilities of your newly remodeled kitchen for years to come.
